Posting a guitar in the UK

As you can imagine, Guitars are often people's pride and joy however they are fragile so when being sent to the UK or further it is imperative they should be packaged correctly. We've put together some packaging tips to help, but in terms of the best courier to ship a guitar, that depends on the size of the guitar and where you're sending it. Domestically you can send via Parcelforce and they can collect from your home address or if more convenient you can drop into a depot or Post Office. 

Because we offer a range of couriers and delivery options, the most appropriate may be different each time you send one. Taking a standard 'Fender' style guitar case as a base you're looking at a length of about 110cm, a width of about 40cm, a depth of 30cm and a weight of around 14kg you could (at today's prices) get:

Choosing a courier to send a guitar isn't as complicated as it may appear. You just add the correct dimensions to the courier quote form, choose the delivery country, and then just select the level of service or how long the delivery should take, and it's as simple as that. For Parcelforce services being sent in the UK, you do not even need to print a label as the driver will bring one with them to the collection point, making the service printer less.

Sending a guitar overseas

If you'd like to ship a guitar to Europe or further then we currently offer a DHL service, our own Parcel Monkey Express service and DPD for some locations. Of course, it will depend on the destination as our courier's service differing locations so it is best to enter your details into the courier quote form and see what service meets your time frame and budget. 

A note about packaging your guitar

Please, please, please do take great care when packing a guitar to be sent by courier. They're obviously very fragile musical instruments and need to be protected when travelling through a very busy courier network. Use a very sturdy container that will withstand being dropped. Also, use vast quantities of bubble wrap and filler within that container.

It'll take much less time packing your guitar well than potentially trying to put a claim through if it arrives damaged. For this item, we do not offer protection cover and it is carried on a non-compensation basis due to the fact it is fragile so make sure your packaging is up to scratch for the long journey. 

 If you wanted some extra advice for shipping guitars, consider the information that eBay themselves offer. 

Some key parts of advice they offer are 

1. Make sure you use a sturdy shipping box, packing peanuts, heavy paper, foam padding and packing tape. You can purchase these online, especially if you are a frequent shipper from a store such as Pack-It Safe. 
2. Detune the strings- taut strings snapping can be a disaster so if possible loosen them off by two octaves to reduce the risk. 
3. Where possible use a sturdy guitar case to minimise the risk of damage 
4. Make sure the guitar cannot move around in the box- this too decreases the chance of damage
