The Faroe Islands is a group of 18 main islands located in the Norwegian Sea between Iceland and the Scottish islands (being just 160 miles from North Rona) and are actually a self-governing dependency of Denmark much in the same way as Gibraltar is to the UK.
The involvement of a nation with the European Union is important, not only for the current issues of the Euro but also because it affects the customs regulations when sending a parcel to the country. Interestingly the Rome treaties state that the Faroe Islands are not part of the European Union and that Danish nationals living on the islands are also not EU citizens, although other EU nationals living there are, unless the individual residing their holds a normal Danish passport - as you can see, the situation is complicated.
The matter is further confused by the notion that the Faroe Islands are not covered by the Schengen agreement related to the free movement of peoples within the EU, however, as there are currently no border checks for persons travelling between the Faroes and countries within the Schengen Area this becomes a moot point.
Economically the islands have been almost exclusively dependent on fishing for their livelihood, although oil has been found within their waters which offers them hope of diversifying their income sources.
When it comes to trade recent figures show that the Faroe islands export predominantly to the UK (24%) whilst Norway is second most exported to country with Spain, France and Germany next in the list. When it comes to imports, and this is of importance to us as a parcel delivery company, the UK is fourth on the list of countries that send goods to the Faroe Islands.
And it's no wonder why we send so much to the country. For small parcels, we can generally ship parcels for as little as £17.49 to £67.99 for a heavy 20kg parcel.
As mentioned, the Faroe Islands aren't part of the EU and hence there are likely to be import restrictions. The latest information regarding this information from the Faroese TAKS is dated 2001. Part of the information, does, however, relate the need to use a pro forma invoice (pdf) a blank version of which we have provided for your convenience.
The information we have regarding items that are prohibited to be imported into the country (other than our own prohibited list is unclear. But we believe you may have issues sending antiques (only with an International Special Commodities contract), Artwork (including original engravings, prints, sculptures; but not to industrial, architectural or hand-painted articles. But please do check before you arrange collection and delivery.
Interestingly "personal effects" aren't allowed to be shipped into the Faroe Islands. But please do contact TAKS at Postbox 2151, Smyrilsvegur 7, FO-110 Tórshavn, Faroe Islands or call them on +298 35 26 00 You can also fax them on +298 35 26 01 or E-mail [email protected].

Collected and delivered on time. Good tracking and all good.
Great to compare different couriers
It took 2 attempts to collect when a phone call or email with a 2 hour time slot could have prevented it, The first collection failed when I had stayed in all day only to nip out at 14.50 to school and returned 15.12 to find the collection agent had been at 15.02
